Visit a studio and gallery that have been mainstays of the Río Grande weaving tradition and local economy for generations. Robert Ortega proudly carries on the family business begun by his grandfather in this family home, adjacent to Chimayó's historic Plaza del Cerro. Twenty-five weavers create rugs and blankets, as well as yardage for Ortega's signature coats, vests, and home furnishings. Classic Chimayó and Río Grande designs and high quality are longstanding hallmarks of Ortega's woven goods. Knowledgeable and congenial hosts share the weaving process and family and local history, making this stop both fun and educational.
