This true community museum is chock-full of local treasures. Experience history through fiber: prehistoric woven sandals and baskets, Navajo blankets, beaded and sewn clothing, a quilt pieced from recycled tobacco sacks stitched with local cattle brands. Colorful vintage Fiesta dresses tell the story of the city's name. On April Fool's Day 1950, Hot Springs became Truth or Consequences for a day, honoring visiting television host Ralph Edwards with a Fiesta. Extravagant handmade outfits enlivened the celebration: tiered skirts from yards of fabric and miles of trim, with matching blouses. The name and the annual fiesta (now in May) stuck.
